POWERcamps

“You must come back and help our girls,” Lucy Luna said as Kristi boarded the bus south in February 2012. Kristi didn’t know how, but she knew she would.

With the launch of AWE in September 2013, Kristi Skyped Lucy and suggested she taught the “W effect” course to the young adults. Lucy said it would be too late; the young girls needed intervention with empowerment, leadership, decision-making, and wellbeing. And so the idea of summer camps was born. Overnight camps for the older girls who have never left their communities, a day camp for the middle girls, and a half-day camp taught by the older girls for the little ones.

The POWERcamps put even MORE social in AWE’s social enterprise model. When you sign up for a course, coaching, trip, and beyond, you are making it possible for AWE to do good for girls in El Salvador AND right here in Minneapolis (see MOXIEshop).

You can follow the first ever POWERcamps this December. Watch for video updates, blog posts, and lots of photos. AND you can donate  directly to Lucy’s nonprofit Barefoot Angels housed under her mom’s nonprofit Asoprosar.
